Shirley Alleyne MBBS, DFAACAP, FAPA (BRIEF BIO)

Dr. Shirley Alleyne is the Lakeland Regional Health Psychiatry Residency Training Director, and a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Nova Southeastern University. She received her medical school, psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship training at The University of the West Indies, SUNY Upstate Medical University and Yale University respectively. Upon completion of residency and fellowship training Dr. Alleyne worked in public health as the WHO/PAHO Mental Health and Non-Communicable Diseases Advisor for the Easter Caribbean region.  She has since focused on clinical and academic work  in the areas of mental health service development, and mentorship in medicine. Dr. Alleyne is the recipient of several awards for clinical and scholarly excellence. Her primary clinical and research interest include the development of mental health services to address health care disparities, and mentorship in medicine. In her past time, she enjoys a good book, music and exploring Lakeland’s beautiful nature trails with her loved ones.
